F350 ball joints 2wd

I just put new tires on my 06 F350 I tried to have my truck aligned but the ball joints are shot. Been reading a lot of info and I think I can do it myself. Considering Moog, XFR, maybe Autozone, Anything else that should be serviced while I'm in there? I've got 212k miles on it.

I have done them many times on 4X4's but never on a 2 wheel drive. The 4X4's aren't too bad so I cant imagine a 2 wheel drive would be too tough.

You do know that you can get a ball joint press from o'reilys or autozone for free, you just have to leave a deposit and when you return the press you get your money back.

I did Balljoints on a 2wd Ranger Last week and the Kit was 125.00 I only rent it and get the 125.00 back when I returned it

And when I do 4x4 Balljoints You have to get the 4x4 Kit to at Another 50.00-75.00 in addition to the first Kit

Both Kits I use come from Oreilys

What did you get for 40.00

I just saw Amazon is out of the $40 ones. It says it does both 2wd and 4wd so I guess we will see if it works.

Thats Nothing Like what I use

here is like what I use and You will need something like this

I also use a BIG Cresent wrench and a SingleJack sledge hammer Cause I always end up cranking it with the Cresent wrench and then Have to Give it a HARD SMACK with the sledge on the C-Clamp Drive Pin (The Black thing in the C-Clamp then Crank it some more with wrench and then ANother Hard POP with the sledge and just work them in like that it takes a Decent amountof Force to get them In

That thing in your Link was just an adapter for 67.00 maybe it was the wrong link IDK

The Ranger I did the other Day did have New Balljoints But the Idiot that installed them Didnt have them Pressed in Far enough In Fact I couldnt get the Saftey Snap Ring in the groove on the one Upper BJ the Castle Nuts was only Finger Tight they SHOULD Torq to 150+ FT/LBS PLUS the Guy Only Used a Hammer to Beat them in and Dam neer ruined the Ball Joints Glad it wasnt done like that on mine 6.0L I would have Been Pissed Off

Make shure to get them in there Right Your Life is on the line with a Part like this. You will be Fine if you get them Pressed Fulley in with the Saftey Snap rings on and All the Castle Nuts Torqed right with the Cotter Pins installed

Oh Ya I use one of these to Get the Tie Rods Separated

Hit me up if you get stuck I done Alot of this stuff for a Shade Tree Guy I can help you out

Dont mess with any Tie Rod adjustments and the Aligment should be Fine I have aligned a Few Old School though if needed

I went with MOOG on my 6.0L its been a 1.5years and there still tight

Plus the Moog had a Lifetime Warrenty

Whatever you go with Make Shure they are Servicable (Must have Grease Zerts)

Saw you were reading about tie rods The way to check those is just Grab the King Pin and wiggle it around it should be Firm and Tight (Just like our Women LOL) any play in the Kingpin and replace as necassery and this Goes for Any Steering Joint Just grab it in a Way and try to move it around Any Play and replace an 1/8th inchis a Mile of play in a Steering component

When you get the old Balljoints out wiggle them they should have some play especialy if you have tire wear then you will know what to Feel for

Two years on Moog ball joints on my sons 7.3L. We are now (as we speak) re-doing them. They did not last. IMO they are Chinese parts - weak steel. XRF would be my suggestion. If you have a ton of money, then DynaTrac ProSteer would be the choice.

Yes . They were totally shot - I couldn't believe how loose they were.

I understand the lifetime warranty thing, but redoing them is a pain! Who knows if quality has changed recently or not. How can we (the consumer) ever keep up with that?? On a recent business trip, I heard two guys in an elevator talking about MOOG parts and how quality has slipped. One of them worked for MOOG apparently. Just hearsay really, but it stuck in the back of my mind. Again - who knows ....... For me, I am going back w/ Motorcraft parts.
