higher cr for 360

I'm wondering if its possible to get a better compression ratio for my 360 on a budget?

yes, following not required in combination except (4)

1. Use a steel shim head gasket.
2. shave heads, block and intake.
3. get a set of COAE heads, or similar.
4. Get 390 crank, rods, slugs(car if max effort).
5. Get 428 crank, flywheel/flexplate & (390 rods, truck slugs)
6. Run the engine at the bottom of lake eire
7. Use the wrong spark plugs.
8. Set A/F mixture 20 times to high and wait.
9. Shim the rod caps, using compensating bearings.
10. ..............................

If you plan on running the 428 crank, yes.

410 pistons are shorter than what's in there now.

Your pistons will be almost 1/4 inch down the hole with 410 slugs.

The cheap way is to make it into a 390 and use the 360 spec piston. (same spec as '60s car engines)

If your block will clean up with only a .010 overbore, you can find .060 oversize 352 pistons. You'll get into the 10s methinks.

You can put 390 rods in and make a Chrysler 340 piston fit.

None. Those were passenger car heads. They were 1960-62 352/390 heads, indicated as "special" on this chart. This chart does not indicate the "D" revision, but does show these heads to have the smaller 62.7 CC combustion chambers.

FE Cylinder Head I.D. and Application Chart

Good luck finding usable heads from 1962.

I looked for SBC pistons and found the compression height to be way off. Since there were so many versions, maybe you could find one that would work.

Or you could use the 390 crank and rods and 360 spec dished pistons and have about 9.5 CR without the mix and match problems.

Put another way, if this (making compression in a 360) were easy, cheap & effective, it would be a popular subject here. It isn't, and, it isn't.

The piston comes up to the top of the bore.

I sold these to a guy in TN, there were two more sets with the seller i got from in Riverside.

I'd forget about COAE, as they are going to be hell to find and get reworked.
352 pistons & ring sets are too much $ compared. Locate a 390 and drop it in. Car engine if you wanna roll around, truck if you intend to work.

if you have a low compression (8:1 - 8.5:1) 390, install 360 rods. Probably not the best way to do things, but it works good.
