Wheel & Tire size advice for a lowered 1968 F100

I have lowered my '68 4 inches in the rear using DJM shackles and hangers, along with lowering it 3 inches in the front with the DJM lowered I-beams.
My question is how can I gauge what wheel and tire size I need to fill up the wheel well?
I have seen trucks that have used 20X10s on the rear with (295/40 ZR20) tires and 18X8s on the front with (245/40 ZR18).
I just need some advice to find out if there is a formula to see what different wheel and tire sizes look like on a vehicle?
Or if anyone has lowered there truck these amounts, what sizes are you running?
Pictures please!

I have the same truck, with the same drop, and am trying to figure out the same thing.

I'm thinking 15" Series 14 Gennies from Wheel Vintiques though, with either a 225/70/15 & 275/60/15 or 225/75/15 & 265/70/15 setup. Just looking to fill the wheel wells also.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm also interested in people chiming in on the OP'S question.

No problem!
Let me know if you hear anything from other sources as well!
Got any more pics of your truck?

Go to classictrucks.com and search the featured rigs by make. Here is a sample of one wearing 18s and 20s.

Yes Sir!
That photo is Kirk Johnson's 1968!
He has given me advice several times while I've been working on my '68.
You are on the right track too my friend!
Thanks

I widened the tubs 3-1/2" also

It wasn't necessary to widen the tubs that much, but I wanted to be able to run 12" rims.
These are 10" wide rims and you could get away with running a 295mm tire without modifying the wheel tubs.

With the proper backspace you can get a really big wheel and tire on these trucks. The problem is when you lower them. If the tire has a large diameter, they rub on the seam between the wheelwell and the bedside. I had to "massage" the seam on my last one cause it was cutting the tire. That was a 285/50/20. Regardless, I think any rim can look good if it has the right backspace and you put a large diameter tire on it to fill up the wheel well. Big wheels look stupid with rubber band tires; but 15 inch wheels can have the same rubber band look with too small a tire as well.

William, that's pretty much the EXACT look I'm going for on my 68.
That looks awesome

What size and offset are you running on the wheels? And do you have a pic of the back straight on to see how wide the rear tires look?

Hey WW thanks for the advice!
I saw in a couple of places on these forums that you stated that you have your truck lowered 4" in the front and 3" AND 5" in the rear...
How did you get the extra inch in the front, (using 3 inch lowered I-beams), and how difficult was it to remove the leaf springs individually in the rear?
Right now my truck has been lowered 4" in the rear using the DJM shackles and hangers.

Hanger seen here

The wheels are factory 8 inch wheels front and rear. The different tire size vs. Front and rear gives the illusion of having a wider tire on the rear. No rubbing at all.... .

I didn't do anything different to the front coils, but my friend said it actually lowered the truck right at 4 inches in the front. Now mine are AIM drop beams and maybe there is a slight difference in the way they were made in 2004 and now? Who knows.

Mr friend removed 2 leaf springs in the rear. Please look at my album for more pictures if needed. I will also post another link to an online album a little later in this thread.
