LARGEST SIZE TIRES ON STOCK 16 INCH WHEELS

Hi everyone,

I looked around a bit but couldn't find any good straight forward info on my question.

I have a 1984 F250 with 235/85r16's on it and was wondering what the biggest size tire I can put on the stock steel 8 lug rims?

Thanks!

265/75R16 fit fine on my stock steel rims. I believe they are a 16x7 rim. I just did a quick google search and see 285/75R16 to be recommended as the largest. Some have said to be using 305 & 315's wich I feel would be to large and cause unwanted wearing. Best bet would be to figure out what tire you want then see what they recommend.

I've got 285/75's on my 86 - Look and fit fine. Don't know that I'd go wider than that though.

I have 285's on mine. When my cabover camper is mounted, the fronts will rub against the inside wheel wells on a hard and fast dip, other than that no issues. I would not go any bigger though. This is how they appear:

All tire manufactures list the approved rim widths for each of their tires. Check their web sites.
As long as it's a 16" tire and your rim falls in the approved width range, you're good.
I've found that you can normally go a 1/2" narrower on the rim width without issue. YMMV

I'm pretty sure the wheels are 16x6 not 16x7.

Though too much white crap out there to go look and confirm ...

The wheel size should be stamped on the wheel.

-Enjoy

Are you sure that's a recent pic, and not one of when the truck was new? Very nice.
I had 285/75 B.F. Goodrich all-terrains on my Excursion, they rubbed the leaf springs at full lock.

You are right, 16x6, however, the wheels on mine are from a '96 and they are an inch wider @ 16x7.

i HAVE A 2004 F250 6.0 DIESEL., rims are factory 16 x8 I beleive.. I put Firestone Destination M/T 315/75/16 ALL around... Had to play with front inner whell wells a bit just pulling them in all the way,, but I has a 2" level lify done years back,, they added a leaf and re arched them.. All is fine,, now just bought some new Bilsteins 5100 series schocksall around, didn't install yet hopefull this weak.. new shocks are for a truck with a 3-4 inch lift....I happy and no issues as of yet, on street tires are basically quiet, it's a diesel,, so not much sound heard,,off road to favorite fishing areas is as far as my off road goes.. tires are basically a 50k mile tire I have read on alot of sites,, 10 ply sidewalls, speed rating 124 Q
