Headed back soon!

Hey all. Just wanted to post up in here, maybe start getting to know my way around the Oregon chapter as I'm going to be heading that way soon. I'm currently stationed at Fort Bragg, NC but I'm getting out in less than two months now. I can't wait to be back in the NW, I haven't been home in 3 years!

Looking for something around the Salem area. Preferably the smaller towns around it. Stayton, Independence, Turner, Jefferson, Scio. Wherever I find work I guess.

Thanks for your service.

We'll end up being in the same area. I'm out west of Monmouth.

Well my wife left with the kids and dogs today. She is going home a little early to go find ourselves a place to live and herself a job. I'll be about a month behind her.

Busy getting the truck ready for the trip. So far I've done:
New radiator and thermostat
New starter and secondary starter solenoid
New P/S pump
New tires
Changed valve cover gaskets, front and rear main seals and oil pan gasket
Transmission fluid and filter
Front and rear diff fluid
Replaced the EGR vacuum supply solenoid
New brake shoes, drums, and spring kit.
Front brake pads
New exhaust
New plugs, wires, cap and rotor, air and fuel filter.

A lot more misc. maintenance but that's some of the main stuff. I still have to do wheel bearings and seals, and possibly bushings, if I get to it. Just making sure this thing is ready for the trek. It has 233k on it, and if I didn't know any better, I would think that the previous owner was a monkey with a wrench... The drive-train seems to be very healthy. It doesn't burn any oil and the transmission shifts strong. Still, as much as I trust that it'll make it, I'm still nervous. I'm basically going to have every tool I own in the back, so I'll be able to handle anything short of pulling the motor (without an engine hoist). I'm pumped up though. It's getting close!

My wife and kids made it in to Oregon a few weeks ago. Looks like we're going to be getting a place out in Scio on about 4-5 acres with plenty of room to park the truck, and the semi.

She came into Oregon, and 10 miles in she hits a speed trap. She thought she was in a 65, but it was a 55. He was a complete ***** about it, and couldn't grasp the concept as to why she was driving a vehicle registered in NC, but had an OR drivers license. Then he proceeded to tell her that there are NO 65 mph zones in all of Oregon. He was unforgiving, he didn't care that she had been away from home for 5 years and that she has a perfect driving record.

Oh well, he ticketed her for going 16-20 mph over, but on the ticket it clearly says radar tracked at 61, alleged speed 71. Pretty sure she will have no issue reducing it to a 6 mph over. It was a great welcome home present though.

Thanks. Always wanted a power stroke and I was able to get a good deal from a private party a couple of years ago. My only wish would be that it would have been deep blue but I'm not going to complain.........................much.
