1950 F-3 fuel sender with Mustang tank

I know....Another fuel sender thread. But I had an idea. Has anyone tried to use the original in-cab fuel sender with the 16 or 20 gallon Mustang tank out back? I realize that it might need to adjustment (bending, shortening) in order for it to register properly, but I see how everyone else is cutting a hole in the top of their tank to put in an aftermarket sender. So I thought, why not use the original.
Thoughts?

From what I have researched the stock Mustang sending unit should work with the stock pickup gas gauge. Make sure you are supplying the correct voltage to the gauge and all should be well.

This is assuming a mid 60s to early 80s sending unit.
