Truck Top Camper vs. Camper Trailer

Hi, First does anyone know what the towing capacity on a 1995 F-150 Eddie Bauer 5.0 (302) automatic would be??
Also are their any Truck top campers that would fit this unit with an 8' box. Actually I'm sure there are a lot that would fit this but is it hard to do and how heavy can you go on this type of camper. Any comments on truck top campers vs. trailer style with just an f150?
Sorry...not asking for much info
Dale

"To tow or not to tow..."

Towing capacity will be determined more by engine, transmission, axle ratio, & 4x2 vs 4x4 than by trim level. Consult your owner manual, pages 274-279. Lowest trailer weight rating is 4800 pounds to highest of 7300 pounds.

Just in case a PO of your truck saw fit to use that manual as kindling or TP here are the various figures for 95 F150 4x2:
Regular Cab, 3.08 axle (code 18 or H8): maximum trailer weight is 4800# with a maximum frontal trailer area of 60 square feet.
Regular Cab, 3.55 axle (code 19 or H9): maximum trailer weight is 7300# with a maximum frontal trailer area of 60 square feet.
Super Cab, 3.55 axle (code 19 or H9): maximum trailer weight is 7000# with a maximum frontal trailer area of 60 square feet.

And for 95 F150 4x4:
Regular Cab, 3.31 axle (code H7): maximum trailer weight is 7100# with a maximum frontal trailer area of 60 square feet.
Regular Cab, 3.55 axle (code 19 or H9): maximum trailer weight is 7100# with a maximum frontal trailer area of 60 square feet.
Super Cab, 3.31 axle (code H7): maximum trailer weight is 6800# with a maximum frontal trailer area of 60 square feet.
Super Cab, 3.55 axle (code 19 or H9): maximum trailer weight is 6800# with a maximum frontal trailer area of 60 square feet.

All of the above presupposes that your truck has the correct suspension, brake, and electrical equipment for towing.

As regards slide-in campers, your 95 F150 would have also had an insert with the operator manual that read: "Your pickup is not recommended for carrying slide-in campers."

Hope all this helps. Happy & safe recreating!

dn.
