Dave,
IIRC the xj40 changed to the strut design in 1988, the XJS however carried the earlier (non strut) design into the early 90's. I think that was due to the use of the V12 in the XJS, a width issue I suspect.

hey dave.....
without posting a picture.....I can explain that the later xj40 stuff had a narrower channel in which to drop in a modern v-8. it was done on purpose so that the "rover" group that held controlling int of jag at that time couldn't drop their v-8 in.....too political....

I know you're tied in to the free jag, but might be more pain than gain!!!

it can be done and good luck with it

you can call me q

Not for me I will stick with the 87 and older setup, but I am always interested in seeing how different setup installs work out.
I have learned to work smarter rather than harder, so I will stick with the easy way out!

Lincoln LS and Jags carried the same suspension. LS's are all over the junk yards.

Are you saying that the LS is the non strut type suspension like the XJ up thru 87?

Edit: It looks like the LS is like the later Jags with the strut style IFS.

As far as costs go with basically upgrading an old 80's front end, I have tallied my costs up so far with upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, steering boots, bushes, new rotors, new pistons in calipers, new brake shoes. Just under $900. Fair bit of cash to outlay, but it's almost a new front end now and should last a while. I haven't got mine in the truck yet, but some day soooooon.

No, I dont really no a lot about the older jags. I do know that the ls and the jags in the early 2000s carried the same suspension, with the exception of the X type.

Jag Suspension

I just finished putting the front suspension from a 95 XJ6 into my 58 F100 and with a little cutting and a little welding, it went in fairly easy. Paid $500 for front and back suspension and got the wheels and tires, can't beat the price. We brought the frame in to 24" wide using 4" square tube and should have a decent ride height. the lowest point which is the front sway bar should be about 9" off the ground. I will get some pictures on the site in the next couple of days. I was a little torn because the series 3 up to mid 80's would be a better choice but this one was available and it's still got decent black paint on it and the bushings are all perfect and the brakes are all fresh.
