Hello r_paetzold and welcome to FTE.

You should be asking your questions in the 7.3L Power Stroke engine forum. They can help.

I would suggest checking the CPS, but ask the engine forum before you take my word for it.

Hello Ray and welcome to FTE.

I've moved your thread to the 1999 - 2003 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel forum because as redford suggested, you'll likely receive assistance here more quickly. These folks are great.

Any smoke from your tail pipe? If so what color? You can move your right mirror to look while your cranking. How about the tach, what does it read while you are cranking? How is your oil level? And the oil level in your HPOP? Have someone with a multi meter take a reading off your right battery while cranking. Your truck won't fire below 10.7 vdc IIRC. Let us know these things, and we can start helping you rule things out. One last thing, check fuse 30. If it's bad, unplug your fuel bowl heater and replace fuse.

Recommend you do an "Advanced" search (see top menu bar at the top of page) targeting this section of the forum for Hard Start, No Start threads and take some time to read thru them. You will see a common theme and series of steps walking you thru the basics like gengine has asked. This is has been a very common topic the past few months including me.

I keep a CPS in my glove compartment with a 10mm wrench. Comes in handy when you need it!

So whaddup? No tach reading and darker smoke? She's trying to fire up. Were ya able to get to the CPS replacement in and did it do the trick? Inquiring minds...blah, blah, blah.

The real question about the CPS is Will he get a OEM CPS to install. Most of the aftermarket CPS's don't work worth a number 2 pile of doo doo LOL. Keep your sensors OEM.
