Door Latch Question

Hey guys my passenger rear door latch has gone bad. Are these latches interchangeable from 80-96? I know a lot of the hardware in those years stayed the same however I'm not sure that applies here. I see on LMC and NPD that the door latch for the 92-96 models (94 F350 Crew) is a control type with cable, not the rod. However looking at the internals on mine, there is a rod for the rear door. I see the latch on sale on ebay that is OEM for cheap, so I was looking at that if it would fit. Any help is appreciated.

Jeff

Are you sure your latch doesn't need just some lube? I had a problem with mine and WD40 solved it.

I THINK they are interchangeable and the cable should work the same as the rod one you have.

Good luck

You know I did some digging and I'm thinking maybe its the door lock actuator that is the problem. I know the passenger rear door electric lock doesnt work so maybe its frozen enough that the door can't lock. I'll try disengaging the rod clip and see what happens with the lock. Thanks.

yup, power lock actuator was frozen stiff. the door is locked permanently for now, will take a pry tool to get the lock rod up, which is ok till I have the time to replace the actuator. Funny thing, I have one from a junk yard that isn't frozen, we'll see if it works when I go in to replace the lock.

Whatever you do don't put that cable operated system in your doors, I just converted mine back to rod linkages after breaking the drivers door cable or handle for the 3rd time in 2 years.

You know Conan, I was down a few brews at the time, so what I really meant was the lock rod and not the door cable mechanism. The crappy thing about the door lock actuator being bad, is that my hands are too big to get in there and fix it with the window guide installed

I need to replace the weather stripping all around for that door and window, so I'll take the window out get it professionally tinted, and then put the lock actuator in, and then do the weather stripping for the window.

I ended welding the split metal on my drivers door and just using some very big washers between the door handle mechanism and mounting...

Speaking of passenger doors, what would be the cause of the passenger door to not close completely? The only way to get it not to bounce on the pin is to really slam it or open a window before closing the door. Is something not aligned?

you can slightly align the striker bolt maybe that will help. If you've ever taken it off and replaced it and didn't get it back in the same spot then maybe its out of alignment

I am having the same problem with my 94 F150. Is that the bolt/receiver that the door latches onto inside the door frame? Is that what I can adjust?

That's exactly what we were referring to my friend.
