Howling turbo?

I recently just posted this article about how i put a brand new transmission and torque converter in my truck and rebuilt the turbo. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...bo-sensor.html I still haven't got this issue fixed, however, my big question right now is does anyone know what would cause the turbo to sound like it is howling? Leak or loose boot on the intake or spyder maybe?

Do you have the O-ring in place between the turbo and the Y pipe? If not that would definitely cause some serious howling.

I remember that one being kind of a pain but I'm pretty sure it's in there. I may take it apart tomorrow and see if it fell or something.

With that being said you have a massive leak somewhere! Check the orange boots under the spyder there a pita to get lined up sometimes. Go look I would think its bad enough you could almost pull a pipe off with your hand if its an intercooler boot

does it sound like a jet engine at the tail pipe?

I am wondering if the exhaust back pressure valve is closed.

I thought about that so I unplugged the connector for that thinking maybe it was shorting out somewhere and keeping it closed same results. Could it be hooked up wrong and it be closed all the time no matter what?

I think it has a threaded rod on it, if the rod was extended to long I believe it would hold it closed.

You could pull the clip off the end of the rod and disconnect it from the EBPV ( its not easy but can be done, reinstallation is a real bitch with everything installed) make sure the valve is moving freely and try driving with it disconnected.

also, have you pulled the intake up to the turbo and made sure the turbo is spinning freely?

I am still thinking it's boots. Unless you got something wrong when the turbo was apart, but not having done that myself can't point you in any direction. Have someone slowly raise the rpms while you listen under the hood. Build a boost leak detector and check all the boots. You did mention in the other post they looked dry rotted?

Didn't think about disconnecting that rod. Of course I didn't really want to either for the mere fact it's a bitch to put back on haha.
When I get off work I'm going to check the boots and then disconnect the rod and go from there. Will repost with results tonight.

The dry rotted looking ones are the red and green lines, the boots on the ends of those but I can't find leaks on them. Doesn't really mean anything either though.

Well after work I got home planning on trying these ideas and ended up having to replace a dishwasher instead. Real joy. Anyways I did check alle the boots made sure they were on properly and tight didn't change anything. Today I'll try unhooking that rod and see what happens. Thanks again for all the suggestions!

All boots are tight and I unplugged the valve and still same scenario. I can spin the wheel with my hand freely just fine but still no boost and all manual shifting. Could it possibly be my APPS?

I've had a howling issue for over a year now. I have pulled the turbo 3 times, installed alum intakes,RRD boots, swapped out innercooler, unhooked wastegate and screwed it tight, changed air intakes, and changed out the turbo wheel. I can't find it. Good luck
