Said goodbye to my 6.2

With mixed emotions I said goodbye to my truck yesterday. I worked out a deal on a new truck at a dealer 275 miles away. (I am in the boonies) It was a deal I could not say no to. The truck listed at well over 75K (cdn) and I got it for 61k and they gave me 34K for mine. I only had to pay 27k difference. I almost changed my mind several times and almost turned around at one point as this has been and is such a good truck. Problem is being a trucker from way back I have diesel running through my veins and it just doesn't seem like a truck without a diesel in it. I refuse to buy another ford diesel after the 6.0 and 6.4 I had, not taking a chance on a 6.7. I went to a Dodge 3500 Laramie dually loaded right up. Driving it home last night left me with the impression that it is the most refined truck I have ever driven. We'll see how I feel over time if I still feel that way. I have been driving nothing but Ford pickups for 20 years and it was a hard step to take. I lost track of how many people I talked to that owned them to get first hand opinions on how they were holding up etc. The mileage for a diesel is terrible to start with at 14.5 mpg highway, but my brother said over time it improves and he is getting around 20 with his now. Takes a long time to break them in to get to that point, he figures a good 20,000 miles or so before they see real good mileage.
I bought a Reese under box set of rails so I can use the same Reese fifth wheel hitch I bought for the factory fifth wheel mount on my F350. Other than that I just got some Husky liners and a Truxedo Lo Pro for a tonneau cover as the one on my 350 is 8 years old and still looks like new. Great covers I highly recommend them.

2012, 350 HP, 800 lb/ft option? Should jerk that 13k trailer around just fine! Should provide years of service. Good luck!

Thanks. I'm not going anywhere though. I have met too many good people on this forum.
Yes it is the H.O. 800 ft/lb version. As for pulling on hills I will see if it is as good as my 6.2 with 4.30's was. It really did pull like a figgin mule. The new truck has 3.73's

I saw something about the Dodge Ram pickups on TV over the weekend. Can't really recall what it was all about, but I recognized the voice. You aren't a farmer, are you?

Nope, work in the oil patch. At one time I was an over the road trucker until I landed a job in the patch.

I'm glad you're sticking around.

Sorry to see you trade out your Ford but I completely understand your reasoning. The new truck looks great and I'm sure it's going to serve you well.

That's good to hear.

I don't criticize anyone's taste in trucks and frankly, I really like the new Rams. You've got a really nice truck there my friend.

Just kiddin'. I'll say one thing, that's a sharp lookin' truck. Ram got it right with the dually fenders, the Fords are ugly as heck..

Anyways, glad to hear you're stickin' around, keep us posted on how the new rig is treatin' ya.

You bet, The inside is very Ford like the way everything is set up and how they operate. Makes for an easy switch. Right now I am looking forward to how it performs once I get the trailer hooked up and put it to work. I let you guys now how I make out this summer.

Yeah I'm anxious to see how it does towing that Jayco.

I'm sure you're going to notice a pretty big difference in stability. And I'd say it'll pull it pretty effortlessly.

I will have to say the rear fenders do look really good. Ford defiantly missed the boat on that one. Nice looking truck and you should have no problem with that trailer of yours.
The stability will be nice too, heard good things about the dullys and pulling fivers.

Super08,

What kind of gas mileage were you getting out of your Ford 6.2L? How was it towing? I tow a 7600 lbs travel trailer(1070 lbs tongue weight) and carry 600 lbs in the bed. I found a 2013 6.2L loaded with a 3.73 rear. Currently have a 2002 F-350 with 7.3. Will miss the torque but the cost of diesel is getting to high.

Mark
