'02 F350 Oil Leak

Does anyone have any advise on where to take a '02 F350 in the Wilmington, DE area for an oil leak? Are there any members nearby who could help me in figuring out where its coming from before I take it in. Would be happy to pitch in for your time.

Thanks.

Can you give it a good cleaning and then take for a short drive and post some pictures of the leaking area? From that some folks here can likely ID the cause for you.

Make sure you clean the oil cooler under the drivers side of the motor. It is where the filter attaches. This could be part of the issue.

Usually the leak forms on top of the engine and drains down through drain holes in the back of the engine. Use a mild degreaser like simple green and clean away. Make sure everything is clean and dry, go for a drive then look closely at any wet areas. Snap a few pics and report back. All of us here are happy to help!

Frank, take your truck no where for the time being. Let the Brotherhood here talk to you and see if we can help you figure this out and you may be able to fix this on your own, for pennies instead of 100s of dollars.

Tell us about 'your leak'. Tell us how your truck is running. Where and how much is this leak. Is it 'oil'? It may be fuel.....

Let's start over and talk to us.

What they said^^^^^^

After fixing my oil leak for the cost of an o-ring kit, about $6, and an hours worth of labor.... I called a shop and told them I was checking around for prices and told them that I had a leaking plug on the back of my HPOP. They wanted $1100 to replace the HPOP. Said it couldn't be fixed and had to replace it.
Another shop said the HPOP wont leak from the rear plugs and that it had to be the rear main seal at a tune of almost $2000.

Had it not been for the instructions and pics I got from the guys here.... I would of wasted ALOT of money.

Give us some more details on where the leak seems to be coming from. Also pics will help alot too.

Some 'Auto garages' really piiiiissss me off. My sister took her suv in to a 'reputable' place for a yearly inspection and walked out with an estimate of 1,600 dollars. Out of everything that I looked at when I pulled it into my shop, it really only needed front brakes (30.00) imo. I changed those and I took her suv to another 'reputable' place for a 're-inspection'. ...... No problems were found.

Guy I work with got an estimate of $210 to change 4 spark plugs in his Subaru.

I think it ended up costing him $12 for the plugs, three of his Coors to this guy, and me making fun of him for a week for even considering it.

It's robbery I tell ya.

Well when Frank comes back to this cornucopia of helpful info we'll straighten up and pay attention, but till then

I had a good experience with the wife's Subaru recently. Needed head gaskets (sadly a common problem 99-04 ish) and a local shop did the job for less than $1600, including milling the heads, new timing belt and plugs! I was pretty impressed aside from the greasy finger print on the door panel. Runs stronger than ever, which maybe ain't sayin much, but still. There are still good shops out there.
