F1 Fenders

I saw two NOS F1 front fenders at Moultrie Auto Swap Friday. Me and a lot of us would like to have them but he only wanted $1750 for the two. I started to get the info but reconsidered. When you can get fiberglass one for less than a third of that, I don't think any of us would be interested.

Believe it or not, that's kind of cheap if they truly are NOS metal fenders. We saw a NOS single fender go for way over a grand on ebay about 2 years ago. Send me the info. At least I can dream....

A lot of truck owners want metal not FG on their trucks. It would cost more than that to buy 2 typical rusted ones and have them properly repaired. The FG ones still take work to fit up and never look the same. I bet they would sell pretty quickly on here.

I agree with Doc, that might not be too bad of a price for them if they were truly NOS fenders, both parts, top and bottom. I saw a set of really nice used fenders, they weren't perfect but very close, sell for $850 at a recent swap meet.

Funny thing about NOS parts prices. $1750 might sound high but figure this way, look what kind of part you're buying. That's $875 per fender. They're heavy, big pieces of metal that aren't being made any more and are extremely hard to find. Now go down to your local Ford dealer and ask about a fender for a 2011 F-100. I'd bet the price for that fender is somewhere around $400, maybe $500 and what do you get? A simple stamped piece of metal that weighs 1/4 what that old NOS fender does and you get as many as you can afford.

Steel is always better than glass.

Hey Larry,
We ended up using fiberglass for all of our fenders on our 1950 F1. It's not what I wanted to do but it's about the only affordable way to go. We searched around Central Texas looking at all the Salvage Yard stuff & it was in the same condition or worse than what we had.

The fiberglass ones are much better quality than what I was expecting - much thicker. They look nice & feel very solid. I haven't had any buyer's remorse on going the fiberglass route.

Where did you buy your fenders,I'm going that way also and don't what junk.
I was thinking of Midwest classic just because I live in Canada and they also sell boxes that I'll have to go get because of price of shipping.

I'm picking up a 48-50 F1 front clip tomorrow, hopefully, that are very solid. Probably one of the best sets I've had. I paid a lot less, but then again, they're not NOS.

Hey Namrod,
Most folks get their fiberglass fenders from Bebop's. There is some "adjusting" required to get the gaps down to your preference - these old trucks weren't bult to laser precision 60 years ago.

I think Topper (topmoo) recently went through the fiberglass fender installation process. He might have more up to date feedback on the vendor & process. His build thread is below.

We used Midwest Early Ford for all of our body needs but they aren't the mfg. just a re-seller. I think they are out of Springfield Ohio.

I'll have a nice pair of 48-50 F1 upper and lower fenders tomorrow. I'll post them up for sale once I take them apart and take some good pictures.
