Help with 6.0 clanking noise
Hi,
I'm new to diesel trucks. I just purchased this truck 4 months ago and the truck was doing ok. I got a water in the fuel code on the dash and I took it to get oils and filters changes and that took care of that 3 weeks ago. Yesterday I was driving home and I noticed that I was on empty so I got off the interstate and got diesel. After I left the gas station and got back on the interstate about 6-9 miles my truck started acting weird like if I was pulling something and it was too heavy and shaking, I pulled off the interstate and the engine shut off. I tried cutting it back on and the engine would make a loud clanking noise. After about 10 minutes of the engine being off I cut it back on and it sounded normal and 5 minutes later it shut off again so I just had the truck towed back home. Does anyone know what could be going on? Could it be that I put in bad diesel or could it have been that they had gas in the diesel pump? This is my work. Truck and I need it so if someone could advise me what I should look for to try to find the right person to fix it fast????? Thank you

Was it the starter engauged and the root cause of the clanking sound ???
there is a Huge list of possible problems at this Point A ScanGaugeII would help
open the upper Fuel bowel check for fuel there and see or really smell it find out if its diesel fuel
anything but Diesel fuel drop the tank clean it
Scan For DTC to
You shure didnt make it to far after getting fuel when all this happened fuel is suspect at the moment

You need something that will read live data, like the scan gauge II, or one of the smartphone apps like dashboss for IOS or torque for android. they plug in to you OBDII port so you can see what the PCM is seeing from the engine sensors. Scan gauge II can be had at autozone for around 150 bucks.
