Tensioner Gasket Failure

I want to start by saying I have a 2010 3V 5.4L with 38K miles. Drove to work in Chicago today and while I was driving through the parking garage the engine started to knock loudly and shake. Check engine light came on. I was lucky enough to find a Ford dealership close by and made a b-line to their service center. The service manager first said it was probably the cam phasers which of course was my thinking. After they pulled the engine down they said the motor had the upgraded cam phasers but the little gasket behind the tensioner failed and I lost oil pressure. He said it was at 8psi. He also said this was a known problem. I've never heard this, only talk of cam phasers. Anyway, the cams and roller lifters are scored and need to be replaced and there are shavings in the oil pan. He said the guides are fine so the bottom end should be okay. I almost hope Ford says to put in a new engine. Pretty upsetting for me considering the truck has only 38K miles and has been run easy.
Anyone else experience this?
