Love my 5.0

Sitting in my motel room sporting a wide grin thinking about the last two days. 1000 + miles from Michigan to Florida pulling my 7500 lb high profile travel trailer.
Put her in cruise and let those ponies run. Cruise set at speed limit on I-75. Averaging 8.7 mpg and loving the ride. Passed everything going up jellico hill. Not trying to show anyone up just letting the cruise and tranny do their thing. Did drop down to third gear a few times but who cares. Rpm's peaked around 4000. Transmission temps never over 205. I've had my truck just over a year. It has 17k miles and never a problem. I love my Truck.

Nothing beats a trip where everything goes smooth!

Your report gives me some confidence that we can use our F150 to pull our 7,000 lb. dry TT with a GVW of 11,000 lbs. I seriously doubt we'll have 4,000 lbs. of stuff on board, but you never know, beer is heavy........

Enjoy your trip!

Whew, at least it hasn't been windy or else that high profile trailer would have made it tough!

That's cool. I need some type of tow vehicle to tow a camper with the family.

I camp all summer long. My kids love it. When I'm not with them my buddies and I came out at the NASCAR races a few times a summer.

After re-reading my post I have to edit. It got up to 4k rpms a couple times. AND I did have a stiff head wind for the first part of the trip. You could definately feel it but she was steady and very little sway. The Ford sway control did kick in one time. I was just coming off a over pass and there were some terrible bumps that rocked the trailer from side to side quite badly and at that very instant a good gust of wind hit. Just as a sway started the sway control kicked in and gave an indication and just as quickly everything was a-ok again. Very seamless. And MPG's climbed to 8.8 by the end of my haul.

What kind of indication did the sway control give you? Something on the dash?

I figured you did, but wanted to see if you had any issues with it. We had high wind warnings in northern Ohio during that time, so when I read your post I cringed at the thought of towing in that weather. It's great to hear it handled so well.

There is a warning that comes up on the screen. Much like when the low fuel first comes on.

It weighs right at 6000 empty, ~7500 loaded to go. It's not as high as a fifth wheel but it's pretty tall for a TT. There are pics of the trailer in my garage.

Yep, I smile every time I tow with it. I had an F250 with 5.4 and 4:10 gears and this thing tows circles around that (the same travel trailer). It was a great truck but the 2001 5.4 just didn't have the power. Even though the torque isn't down as low, the 5.0 still starts the trailer moving much better from a start than the 5.4 did.
