66 F250 Camper Special sloppy shifter

I'm new to this venue after having been impressed while lurking for the last few weeks. Found great advice re an exhaust manifold I need to replace and now seek advice re the shifter on my NP435 four speed. It's been stout for 350,000+ miles but since the engine is out for rebuild I took the trans in for cleaning and inspection. She had become as sloppy as ... well, whatever your imagination can come up with. Not a problem for me but then I grew up driving her but a helluva challenge for others to drive. Once I removed the lever it was easy to see why the shift pattern had lost any resemblance to the original "H" pattern. The slots in ball on the shift lever are basically gone and the pins are severely worn. I've just started my search and am hoping to get some direction from this forum. I believe the part number for the lever is D2TZ-7210-G. Is that correct? Does anyone know the part number for the pins and retaining cap? Any recommedations regarding sources? TIA.

There's millions of NP toploaders in the junkyards. Just take the whole unit off the tranny.

No, absolutely not!

Does anyone know the part number for the pins and retaining cap?
Welcome to FTE

Where did you get this wrong part number* from? D2TZ-7210-G = 1972/77 P Series Parcel Delivery NP435

C5TZ-7210-B .. NP435 Shift Lever / Obsolete ~ Applications: 1965/66 F100/250 2WD

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
----------------------------------------------
B8T-7220-D .. NP435 Shift Lever Retainer Cap / Obsolete

BABB FORD SALES in Reed City MI has 1 = 231-832-2206.

SIEMENS FORD in Bridgman MI has 1 = 269-465-5344.

NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie TX has 4 = 972-937-2201.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 6 = 800-543-4959.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 43 = 800-476-9653.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) B7T-7221-A .. Trunnion (pin) ~ Retains notched NP435 shift lever retainer cap to shift tower / Obsolete

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS has 7.

GEORGE ORDUS FORD in Bad Axe MI has 14 = 989-269-9245.

GREEN SALES CO. has 78.
-------------------------
The NP435 retainer cap has two notches, is retained to the tower by two trunnions (pins).

This cap must be pressed down by hand and held down while turning it to remove it. Some people haven't a clue, use channel locks...which tears out one/both of the notches. Not pleasant.

There are two nylon inserts each on the 1-2 (D2TZ-7C430-A) & 3-4 (C2TZ-7C430-A) shift forks. These crack apart/disintigrate, the pieces may fall into the gears, jamming them up.

Look at yours, see what their condition is (if still extant). 100's of each available NOS

* The 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com for 22 bucks.

Thanks NumbersD. I came up with the incorrect number thumbing through the partial paper copy of the master parts catalog I have. Soon I will have a complete one on CD from hipoparts (now $27.50 delivered). Thanks for the tip. Will now start the search for a used shift lever.

If you get a new shift arm from wrecking yard or P and S make sure it is from a similar year or bring your old one to match up. The part of the shift lever that extends into the trans are different lengths in different years ask me how I know.
