2008 escape loud clunking when i accelerate
I have had a vibration problem in my Escape and took it to a garage. The mechanic said there was a couple of u joints that needed to be replaced. After 5 hours the mechanic said he couldn't get the drive shaft to turn in the slip yoke after replacing the u joints. He said he called Ford and they told him that the whole drive shaft would have to be replaced.
Then I purchased a used drive shaft from a 2010 Escape. The mechanic installed that drive shaft and now it's vibrating immediately and constantly and making a banging or clanging sound when I drove it home from the garage. I never drove it more than 2 km.
Does anyone have any idea why this mechanic wasn't able to replace the original drive shalft or installing another one?
Will driving it to the garage in this condition do any damage?

As phrased, doesn't make any sense. A slip yoke is a hollow tube with a spline cut into it which mates with a shaft that has a matching spline. As your suspension moves up/down the lenght of the driveshaft needs to be longer and short. The mating spline of the two allows movement or sliding back/forth.
A driveshaft is balanced as a assembly. No telling what the mechanic did. The driveshaft doesn't turn in the slip yoke.
Here's a short video of a slip yoke. At the far right towards the end of the video you can see the actual U-joint with yellow grease seals.
