Here is an interesting one for everyone.. I have a 2005 PSD and posted on here in the middle of last summer that my turbo was sticking, and around the same time my EGT guages on my edge stopped working. Didn't think anything about the guages but figured my turbo was ready for a cleaning. Turbo was not sticking anymore but finally decided to dig into it and clean it. After opening up the turbo I found a completely chewed up impeler wheel and the vanes looked like they had been repeatedly shot with a shot gun. After some thinking I pulled the EGT probe out and found the tip of my EGT probe broken off.
So for some reason the tip broke off pre turbo and bounced around inside the turbo chewing everything up until it broke the ends of the impeler enough to fit through and go out the exhaust.. ****ty luck for me LOL
I agree OUCH.
This is the one reason I keep thinking of when I think EGT monitoring.
Who made your EGT kit or more to the point where did the probe come from?
In aircraft they get looked at every so many hours of operations and even then
they sometimes go away.
How long had it been in place and any idea how hot it got ?
Also how far did you place it in the manifold?
What I am getting at was it in to a point where the tip
could vibrate with the pulses from the exhaust. Just some thoughts.
Are you sure that all of the metal peices went out the exhaust?? I started having problems with mine and eneded up taking the heads off to find the valve's bent up and a torx bit stuck in the piston! that ended up being a $8,000 rebuild ($12,000 in total after I added some goodies)
