Time/distance to operating temp?

Hey guys,
Driving to work this morning with the 7.3 and was wondering if the 6.2 gas is any faster up to operating temps.
Since we've moved, my commute is 8 miles and about 15 minutes. In the winter the engine coolant barely gets to 160. Summer it will hit operating temp (195deg) by the time I get to work. So I hesitate to drive it in the winter all those short trips (I have a car I use when I'm not driving the beast). For reference I live in SC.
Anyone have any info to compare? I'm guessing the 6.2 warms up faster, being 11+ year newer technology but gas/diesel who knows.

In the dead of winter (single digits/teens) with no remote start, I think I get heat usually within a few miles. I usually remote start it though and don't pay much attention beyond that.

One thing's for sure, the 6.2 warms up WAY faster than the 6.7...

Hey Gocamping

For your 7.3 on those short winter trips I would suggest blocking your radiator with poster board inserted directly in front. I've had my IDI 7.3 for nearly 20 years and that trick has work well in Colroado and Alaska

That's a great idea! never thought of that - I'll try this winter but hopefully it may be one of the last before a 6.2
