More progress on the frame, she is back in black.
Here is how the frame started.. All dirty and rusty.
I started with a simple pressure wash, didn't do much. This stuff is stuck on good. Then I got the angle grinder out.
First, to prevent some kind of horrible tuberculosis type lung problem, I bought a mask. After this grinding process, it was unbelievable how dirty the filters got.
Here is the partially sanded frame
Then I put about 4 coats of the Rust prevent spray paint on, and it really sticks. I tested it by spraying it, letting it dry and hitting it with the angle grinder again, it stayed nice and black.
Finally I got a single can of $.96 wal-mart spray paint that was gloss black and lightly went over the satin. It has a very nice semi-gloss look.
I know powder-coating is the way to go, but I do not have $750 to sink into just the frame. It'll get it the next restoration... haha
I did notice when I was sanding on the front I beam, it has some pretty serious pitting in the iron. a good friend of ours has a spare, that was going to the scrapyard anyway. Its much better than mine. I suppose it happened from sitting in the dirt for all those years.
