89 f150 with bad cats

It had a 302 efi was wondering if it was a bad idea to smash the cats

It's always a bad idea to defeat the epa mandated equipment. Even if they don't check for it to register/renew you never know when they will do a surprise roadside check (they used to do them annually here in ohio). The vehicle will be deemed non-roadworthy without. If they're bad, replace all three with a single high flow unit. That will help and keep you legal.

Legal is not a problem as their is no inspection in Alabama I was wondering if I could just nock emm out till I got a high performance one to put on it my mager question is will it help or hinder performance
