79 shifter linkage

Swapped 4 speed to automatic and used a doner truck column.trans was one I had in the shop.now the single rod for the shifter does not seem to line up could the shift linkage on the trans be differant on differant year models.need help.

The illustration in that link is for a 4WD truck. If the OP's truck is 2WD the linkage will be entirely different.
The 2WD don't use a bellcrank assy. The shift rod goes directly from the arm on the steering column to the shift arm on the transmission.
Here's the 2WD version of the linkage. Scroll to the bottom half of the page.
