Split rear end help
Mornin' all!
I have just purchased and gone through my '52 F6. It is now licensed and useable but I still need to improve. I don't have a speedo or tach working and can't tell the difference in the split rear end while driving. It is supposed to have a 6.33 - 8.81. with the control pushed all the way into the dash is this supposed to be the 6.33 or the 8.81 final drive?
Thanks,
Neal

Welcome to FTE.
One of my dad's trucks (F6, '48 iirc) had the dash mounted switch. Again, iirc, that's a vacuum set up for shifting, vs. the electric shift of later models, mounted on the shifter. Anyway, in is low, out is high.
The difference is dramatic. If you can't fell it by the seat of your pants, it's not shifting. It is akin to a gear change in the transmission, so it's not a subtle change like the 2nd OD in a new 6 speed automatic!
Two speed info here in post 5:

Pics and links in post 1 & 3. Note post 3 has a link to pic with the vacuum pot on the axle.

I thought I could find more on the vacuum shift, but not right now. A quick look at the axle will tell the tale. Electric parts are available, and I think it was said in one of those links that you can convert the vacuum to electric.
IF, IF yours turns out to be electric, parts info here in post 2:
