trans locked up motor??????

I just bought a 95 f250 4x4 with the 460. The guy i bought it from had a trans slipping towed it to the shop when the shop went to pull it in they started it put in gear and engine died. The motor is now tight w no movement either direction with a bar obo it. Is it possible the trans is holding the motor tight? What can I do? Please help!!!!!!!!!

There is a remote possibility that a belt-driven accessory is preventing the engine from being able to turn over. Slack off on the two drive belts and see if you can turn the engine then.

In order for the trans to do that something has to fail in the trans to lock it up AND something has to fail in the torque converter at the same time to lock it up. Both have to fail at once or it won't lock the engine.

This may not help but this past summer my AC compressor locked up and pretty much locked my motor up . The motor would barely turn over like low batts . First time on the hook got it home took off belt and stared right up .

I'd take the belts off and see if it will spin. I've seen AC compressors lock up and lock the engine up.

Kitson82, If the truck was towed for quite a distance without removing the driveshaft or the axles, the trans is probably burnt completely up and peeling metal inside. When they cranked it up and put it in gear, the front pump froze and the gear that turns the convertor is seized or burst and won't let the convertor spin with the engine. I'm an old Ford Tech who did trans for 30 years and seen this happen several times. The trans oils from the front pump when the engine is running and if the driveline is turning and the engine isn't, no lubrication is happening at needed points in the trans, causes things to start seizing. Try pulling the trans leaving the convertor bolted to the flex plate and see what happens. If you can't get them to separate, you'll know for sure.

I think you might not be able to without damaging the pump or convertor. I've seen guys take all the trans to engine bolts out and let the trans jack sit a couple of inches below the pan, rock the trans up and down to try to burst it loose. At least if you still have the convertor attached to the flexplate when you get the trans out, you can see if the engine will bar over, good luck.

The ONLY way to find out what's wrong is to get the codes read. When the OD light flashes it stores a code to tell what's wrong. You must have that code. The auto parts stores do not have the right tools to read these codes, you'll have to pay someone to read them.
