Replacing air filter. Which style to get?

The old filter that I am replacing is an element only that is pleated and cone shaped, green color.
Some new filters have the housing and the element built together, with a honeycomb style element.
What are the differences?
Thanks

And make sure you get the blue lined cellulose filter, not the white.

Yes what would be the difference between blue and white?
The Napa store in town had a Wix filter but it was white and $84.

The diffrence in color really makes no diffrence. I used to run the wix filter and loved it. The best filter for your truck is the stock set up. Do not to a cheap cold air, if you do make sure it is not oiled. But like the guys have stated a stock air filter is good up too 700hp (I think) and it filters better also

The green aftermarket that I am replacing is a 'no-name on it' peice of junk. It has collpapsed in the housing and not sealed off, now the inlet pipe to the turbo is oily and dirty.

The Pro Dry 7 from AFE is excellent. I've had mine for over 50,000 miles now and my turbo compressor wheel is spotless clean.

That is not correct. The blue media is a water resistant synthetic and will not start to blind off if blowing snow or moisture gets on the filter element.

Some folks that did the zoodad mod noted that they got more moisture on the air filters from blowing rain. I have never seen it, but I can see where it can happen. I think (don't know for sure) that Ford's intent was (as you noted) to provide a slightly cheaper option for areas that did not get snow.

For as long as these filters last don't cheap out. Get the blue. You can get a Racor, they make them for Ford, cheaper on line at dieselfiltersonline.com.

I thought the OEM filter setup was designed and made by Donaldson and Racor was responsible for the Oil/ Fuel filters and HFCM.
