Ford Truck Bed Info

Hi, new here...........do not own a Ford but my father in law (owns a ford) has an old trailer made many years ago from a Ford truck bed.
I was wondering the year and possible value to somebody. He is selling it with a utility quad and really asking nothing for it. I look at it as a part that could be something that somebody could be looking for as I know it's old and hard to find.
Any info would be much appreciated!
Here's a couple pics and thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome to FTE. That bed looks like a '48 thru '50 bed. If it's good shape, depending on where in the country you are, out could be with maybe about $300 to $500, just depends on condition and location.

OK, thanks. I am in So Cal and it's located in Angelus Oaks (off hwy 39 to Big Bear). I had a Jeep that came out of a garage up there (after 25 years) and things preserve pretty good.
It may sell with the quad this weekend but if not it would be great to see somebody that could actually use it for a resto project and really needs it get their hands on it....I'm sure he'd gladly let it go for $300.

I don't recognize that as a ford truck bed. I could be wrong but its for sure not a 48-52 or 53 and up.

looks more like an International bed to me??

The fenders didin't seem to match anything I could find..........the Ford fenders all seemed to stretch back farther.

If the axle is original to the bed maybe the bolt circle can help identify it.

I hate to say this but judging by the basic shape of the fenders and the protrusion of the full floating axle hubs, I'd say it's a late R or S series International. But then I can't get up close to it either.

Makes no difference to me...........regardless of what it is, I'd still like to see it used as a truck bed than a trailer. They had another up there as well with a camper shell on it made into a little camping trailer. I know my wife's uncle used it quite a bit. It was perfect for one person. Not sure what that one was or what happened to it..........

Geomech, what year range are you thinking if IH?

By the way, my father in law (who is old enough to know) told me it was a 40ish Ford bed. I think he has the tailgate for it..........probably has something on that.............no?

Im guessing late 40,s early 50's bed? it does look pretty decent for someone to use on a truck build. I found a ford bed trailer same type of deal for my 51 a while back. tailgate is not great though, I may be interested in the ford tailgate? if youve got some pictures you could send to me at jfmadsen at yahoo dot com that would be great.
thanks
Josh

There's a guy, lives about 50 miles away from here, has a trailer made from a '42-'47 (parallel leaf springs) pickup frame and bed. The bed and fenders are in good shape; the tailgate is in good shape; hell it's still got the taillights and spare tire carrier. Even the rear axle is all there. The guy never uses it but consider selling it? Are you kidding? It's downright aggravating because a lot of people could use the parts. I guess it's one of those things where you have to wait until the guy (in his late 70s) gets sick and has to go into the hospital and you go in and talk his wife out of it. I might add that I lost out on a '38 1/2 ton that way. I had competition who was a bit luckier than I was.

They're aways 'gonna restore it', until one day it dissappears. When it comes back to our shores it will be as a cheap copy of something invented here...... I have been really persistent with some of them and it has paid off in a big way at times. I have gotten 'the phone call' at least 3 times.

GB, how long have you lived on Orcas Island? My uncle (recently passed) was somewhat of a fixture there. Name was Kramer....
