Driver's side door lock

Driver's side door lock
Here's the idiot question of the day - how do I lock my driver's side door?
Passenger side has the separate lock under the handle with the little cover, driver side doesn't (nor does it have one in the handle's button like I've seen). Is manipulating the handle "down" from the inside supposed to lock it? Were door locks another thing that was an option back then, that we take for granted now?
I was born about 30 years after my truck was made, so excuse my ignorance.

The door locks by pushing the handle forward. Slide over and exit the passenger side where you can lock that door with a key. Goes back to all parallel parking. In many towns it was illegal to exit from the driver side.
On the drivers side door, everything is there except the key lock. You can easily add the key lock to the driver side by coping the hole from the passenger side and installing a key lock. I did exactly that on my 60. As was mentioned, the key lock was an option.
