dually rear-end question

dually rear-end question
ok folks, for years i have been told that a dually rear end is 7/9 inches wider than a regular 3/4 -1ton truck , pick-up not cab chassis. Here,s what i have a 1993 ccdrw 1 ton . i can get a 1999 f250 4x4 cc srw pick-up. i just measured the rear -end from brake mounting flange, and both rear-ends are within a 1/4 inche of each other. could someone please explain this? rusty

rusty,it sounds like you may have a conversion there like this one:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...od-or-bad.html
if you have a f350 pickup then her drw axle measures over 59" between brake backing plates.it's drastically wider.so much so,you don't even need to put a tape across it.you can clearly see it's not even close to a srw or f350 cnc rear.
so if your getting a measurement closely to a srw axle, then pull the rear wheels.you'll probably see DRW spacers on a srw axle out back OR you've got a cab n chassis not a pickup.
pic attached of my used pickup drw sterling.
what happened to your axle, that it needs to be replaced by the way?

your '93 is a factory dually what? they made f350 cab n chassis (those all ran dual wheels but they didn't have a wide axle.they had a narrow frame and springs instead) and and f350 pickups (they used the same f250hd / f350 srw frame and springs,so to fit dually rims on those, required a much wider axle.) they are different, even though they share the same title "f350".we can't see your rig.you have to tell us what it is or we can't help you figure it out.
i wish ford never did the dual 250 and 350 thing.it's a pita trying to explain lol.
you should have seen me on the phone for hours upon hours explaining the difference to salvage yards all over the us over and over trying to find the right rear.so frustrating.
seriously would it have killed ford to call the f250 HD an f275 and the f350 cnc an f375? it would have made life so easy.

F250 mentioned that he might have a conversion.. IE someone slapped a bed on a C&C and was asking him to verify this and was presented with the lame answer of check my avatar. This was to attempt to help him figure out how much different the widths would be / should be.
anyway, sounds like a waste of time indeed
