6.9 GP and IP Wiring and sensors

We are in the process of finishing a swap of a 6.9 IDI into a 79 F-150. Most of the wiring such as oil pressure sender, etc, starter, etc. is relatively straight forward. The engine was supposed to be an 86, but it has a solid state GP controller and "bullet style" GP connectors, so I gather it is maybe a late 86? I know I can just connect a dash switch to the GP solenoid and not run them for more than 10 seconds, but given that it has the newer style control box, are we better off staying with that? On various parts lists, they show a "GP Sensor" and a "GP Controller" that both appear to screw into the water jacket. Are they applicable to trucks with a solid state controller? Are they one and the same? The person who started the swap did not leave the sensors in the engine, so we are a little unsure of what should be there. For the IP wiring, it is easy to figure out the fuel shut off solenoid, but what activates the cold advance in the pump? What activates the cold idle solenoid. The wiring diagrams I have show a temp sensor for the gauge, and a second one for a light. Is the one for the light the same one as would go to the GP controller? We appreciate your help.

The GP hardware that screws into the water jacked are obsolete with the new system.
12v comes from the ignition switch (hot in run and start) to the glow plug relay, then to the fuel shut-off solenoid, then to a temp switch (passenger side front, under the alternator). The other side of the temp switch goes to the cold advance and the high idle solenoid. The glow plug controller senses engine temp indirectly by reading glow plug resistance.
