What brand of remote starter do you guys reccomend?

I am in the market for a alarm, keyless, remote starter for my 99 7.3. I know I am gonna have to get a system that has a delay for the glow plugs. I kinda like the look of the viper ones with the iPhone app and stuff but which ones do you guys reccomend? Is it diesel compatible?

Thx for all info.

On my 06 and my '12 I went with viper with the smart start.

Never had and issue and it's stopped at least two break ins.

There are several brands manufactured by the same mother company (Directed - Car Alarms | Remote Starters | SmartStart | Telematics | Keyless Entry | GPS | Vehicle Security | Window Tint | Remote Start | Window Film). I went with a Python 533 from their line and like it so far. I posted a write up of the install they other day. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...2003-f250.html

I have Compustar, but only the remote starter, no alarm system, works great for years.

Another Viper Smart Start here. I'll never own another Vehicle without a remote start.

I've got a Marksman X11. It does everything and then some. It's a 2 way communicator, so it has tons of extra features. Works great and has built in timers to auto start your vehicle whenever programmed too or based on temperature.

Sounds like the Viper smart start has quite a few fans. I am continuing to look at all the options. Please keep the suggestions coming.

I recently had my 2012 SD work truck fitted with a Clifford 2 way system; alarm, tool box pinning, window automation and remote start. Like white oak says, DEI makes viper, Clifford, etc... and probably just re-brand the look and name for particular territories. At least that's what it seems like around here. I got a couple of quotes on both and they actually had the same models numbers Viper/Clifford.

Very happy with it thus far if that helps....

I too have a Clifford installed by Ziebart. It took them awhile to get the computer stuff worked out but the two major benefits of the unit is signal strength and feedback. I can start the truck 1/3 mile away with typical obstructions and the two-way lets me know it did start.

I am looking at the Viper 5704V system. They list it on Viper for $599.99, I know that is MSRP but I found some professionally reconditioned ones on eBay for $175-200. What do you guys think? I linked it below. Take that back. I can get a brand new one like below for $199 on eBay. And a new smart start module for $120. I could always add the smart start later.

Are you able to repair it yourself if something goes wrong - even if you're away from home? DEI won't warranty anything purchased from a non-authorized dealer.

I commend you for self installing,...as much as i'm handy, I wouldn't take the chance with my new vehicle's computers and circuitry.

Local certified shop did mine and I'm glad I went with them...the wiring job he did was over the top with all soldered/heatshrink connections and was all neatly tucked in like factory work.

I think remote start requires an additional chipped key be buried with the installation which cost me an additional 80/90$, can't quite remember...good luck in your install :

Well the good thing for my truck is I don't have the chipped keys. And I already have a aftermarket keyless entry so at least I know where quite a few of the wires are already. I am only concerned about if the system needs any kind of programming or just plug the wire in and good to go.
