97 f-150 4 wheel drive don't work

Here's what I'm dealing with. Got in my truck put it in gear and nothing. Thought my trans went out well to make a long storie short the motor on the transfer case is not shifting its stuck inbetween 2 high and 4 high replaced the motor its still doing it. So I have to unplug the motor and manualy put it In 2 wheel drive. . Any advice would be great....

You do know it turns a shaft in the transfer case to engage the 4w drive train as well as power an electric clutch off the circuit board?.
Is the shaft able to turn to the first position without hanging up?
That's the only thing that would stop it.
Good luck.

Yes it turns thats how I change it from 2 high to 4 high, my light on the dash don't work either. Lights up when I start so I know it works. No matter where I turn the dial 2 high 4 high 4 low nothing happens. I have to unplug the motor on the transfer case to keep it in gear, if not it jumps inbetween gears. So confused. Thanks for the reply..

There's no way to "turn the dial" on my automatic '98 4X4 b/c it has the big floor mounted shift lever.

However it does have a solenoid on the front axle that kicks the 4WD in & out via the front differential. Have read that this shift mechanism is prone to sticking, rendering truck incapable of engaging front axle.

IT DOES NOT TURN THE LIGHT ON UNTIL THE OPERTION IS COMPLETE!
Listen to what your being told.
The case motor not going to it's first position 'as you said' will not light the light indicating the opertion has not completed.
That's why it's designed that way.
Good luck.
