Chris,

I used new TOYO 9.00-20 radial tires on my front axle and recapped 9.00-20 radials on the back.

They *just* fit in front and do not rub. I tried to buy 8.25-20's but the local Les Schwab Tire place said they weren't available so they recommended 9.00-20's.

I only drove it for a few months before I tore it down for restoration but it did drive nice.

From the pictures it appeared that you do not have split rims. If they're lock-ring, like I have, that's OK. Just be extra careful when you put them back together.

If you could find some 22.5" 6 lug steel wheels, I would go that way so you can switch to tubeless tires. It'll give you FAR more choices in tires.

Also, I would put NEW tires on the front and use re-capped tires in the back. It'll save you $$$

There's nothing wrong with a 272 btw, You could rebuild it, make it a 292 easily and with dual exhaust it would sound GREAT!

22.5 6 lug rims

I emailed Alcoa wheel tonight about getting aluminum 22.5 rims with x6 lug holes at a 8 3/4" spacing . Will see what the tech guys say

Does the engine have ECG cast in around the distributor? If so, 'tis a 272. As far as a 312, the only two ways to really know for sure is to look at the main caps. If ECZ is cast in, then it's a 312. OR, look at the outer edge of the flywheel mounting flange. You would be looking for a raised dot on the flat area.

i love the look.
interesting that it has juice brakes, but air brakes on the tag.
are the tag brakes parking brake only, or are they service brakes also?
the rear suspension looks funky.
almost like a home made setup. i have never seen anything like that before.

are you leaving the gas engine in it, or are you going to swap a diesel in there?

The lever ingages the rear brakes
The rear suspension is very let's say unique ! Lol
For now gas ! But a diesel may find a way in to her, I would do a engine swap if I replace the rear axles and suspension with a modern twin screw setup
$$$$ and time

Are the # by the distributor on the drivers side or passenger side?

according to my 56 shop manual the f600 front springs were 2in wide with 8 leaves
the f700 springs were 2.5in wide with 12 leaves
I see 11 leaves in your picture and noticed you have 2 wheel cyl. (per wheel) on your front brake, my f600 only has 1 wheel cyl. ... maybe an f700 axle has replaced the original one.
You could also check the front brake drum ... f600 should be 13in (id) f700 should be 16in (id) according to the shop manual.

measure the diameter of the backing plate, see if it's bigger than 16in .... the brake drum has a 16in inside dia. if it's from a f700
