Locking hubs? Easy question
I have a rotating squeak in the front end of my f250 4x4 v10 and im sure its because the hubs are set in automatic. i went to see if i put it in manual, rather then shift on the fly and it would help stop the rotating of the front axle. however, when i went to go turn the hub, i noticed that i don't know which way to turn it because its not written on the hub and i don't have the owner's manual. can you tell me the settings of the hub? I see the dimple but don't know which setting is which because there isn't a label.

i do have the switch on the dash to change it into 4x4 high or low (i am guessing that is the automatic on the fly magic) i don't care that i have to get out and lock it in when needed so id rather have it off until i lock it in and then ill flip the switch on the dash.
is there 3 settings, automatic, manual, and disengaged.
automatic is when i want to be able to stay in the truck and flip the switch
manual is when its locked in period
disengaged is not able to be automatically switched on from inside the cab.
am i right in that logic?

just reiterating what you said is if i turn it as far as it can go clockwise, it will be locked into 4wd. if i have it at the dimple, it is automatic whcih i can stay in the truck and use the switch on the dash, and then all the way counterclockwise is disengaged?

stock hubs only has two settings on the ( hub) auto and lock. if it is all working right you turn the switch in the cab to 4 wd and the hub will lock automatically if the ( hub ) is on auto (counter clock wise) to the dot. Clock wise to the dot is lock. There is no disengaged with the hub I have
