1962 F700 engine/trans swap

Ok, so we picked up a old '62 F700 with a blown 292 Y block. It is a 4x4 and the axles underneath it are both in great shape. What I am trying to do is either a full swap to a 460 or a 7.3L. The main question I am trying to get answered is what the donor truck should be? The transmission is the main concern, what will be geared low enough to deal with 4-5 yards of snow or dirt in the dump bed that is also a 4x4 transmission. The F700 has a divorced transfer case in it but the donor engine/trans does not need to be. Doesnt bother me if it is a manual or automatic, I can make it work either way but have no idea what kind of donor vehicle to even look for? If an axle swap is neccessary that would be ok too, but I would like to keep the stock axles under it if possible. Any help or suggestions involving this build is greatly appreciated!

If it was me..

Id be looking for a mid 80's international s1600-1900 with preferably a dt466 or a idi444/420 (7.3/6.9) would be good and a 5 speed. If its going to be doing a lot of plowing it would be nice to find a a 3 or 4 speed brownie too. That way you can plug it into the perfect gear while pushing the snow around.

Divorced T case gives you tons of options.. Does the t case have 2 speeds?

ooh miss read.. not a plow. A dump. Any 2.5 or 5 ton trany should work fine for a little dump truck like that.. Im sure the axles are geared in the 6's.. So low gears shouldnt be a problem..

It is a two speed t-case. That definitely gives me a good place to start. I know this wont be an easy project, but I have alot of time to play with this thing. Thanks for the info.

A F700 4X4? It should have a 302 or 332 engine in it. Is it a Marmon-Herrington, Napco, or Coleman conversion? The tranny behind that motor should be a clark 5 speed, is it a regular 5 or an overdrive? That tranny is strong enough already, you could find a lot of donor motors to bolt to it. Just need right bellhousing.
diesel or gas to your preference. The IH diesels mentioned are cool, how bout an old detroit? 6V53 will fit too. Cummins 6bt used in about any truck.

It is the M-H 4x4 conversion but it does not have the stock transmission in it, the guy that had the truck before us dragged it out of a different truck, it is only a 4 speed manual, not entirely sure what it is but I can pull some codes off it later. I am pretty sure it has the original 292Y in it, well had, I already pulled it out and found cracked pistons and block. It is an old airforce truck that was used up here in Alaska and has never left.

Do you already have an engine or are you looking?

For gas, consider a 370 or 429 from a later model F700 or similar. I think they use the same type of motor mounts as the y block--that is, a front mount off the front cover and the rear mounts off the bell. You should be able to find one with a 5er attached.

For an oil burner, maybe a 4bt or 6bt Cummins.

Think about your swap and intended use. Your drivetrain, chassis and brakes are good for only so much, so don't overpower it.

If the total weight will be below 20K I'd think even a ZF 5 or 6 speed would last.
I drove my 89 F450 daily for years loaded to 19K and while it is "out to pasture resting " it still has about 400K miles on it and the trans works just fine. The engine A 7.3 IDI is a little tired though.
