Bilstein 4600 or 5100 shocks ???

I have a 06 4x4 F250SD Lariat. Stock height. I do some towing short distances with our boat (approx 10K weight)
When doing regular driving I really don't like the extra stiff ride/ sometimes "bouncing" on certain roads.. but realize that I need stiffness for the towing.
Also no real off roading done...

Anyone out there with a preference?? 4600's or 5100?

Thanks in advance
Alan

I went with 4600 HD's in your situation - almost exactly the same as mine. What I found was that the 4600's are designed for stock height trucks that are used for work more than play. They are a little stiffer to account for the added loads of towing a decent trailer, but are not harsh. I was instantly impressed with the ride improvement on rough, washboard roads and over undulating smooth pavement. Less "crashy" over sharp bumps, less sway, greater stability. I felt that the powdercoated finish would probably last better than the clear coated finish on the 5100's, as well. I was told that the 5100's have softer damping initially, for lifted trucks that see off-road more, and need more compliance and travel over larger bumps. There is a 5100 designed for 0 - 2" lift, but they are really intended for off-road, play time trucks. Regardless I think the difference is minimal and both will be very good for you. I also got the 5100 steering damper.

I have those shocks on my stock ride height '04 and love the way it rides. It's firm but not jarring, very pleasant but well controlled. Highly recommend for a leaf spring front truck like an '03 or '04.

I picked up the bilsteine leveling kit with the 5100 series, great improvement from the stocks.no problem with them and pull 35' toyhauler.
