Cool replacing oem fuel tank with larger

2012 F-250 Crew cab Lariat w/ message center, bells & whistles. Installed after market 50 gal fuel tank and subsequently lost following displays in message center DEF, Intelligent Oil Monitor, and Select Shift Transmission gear. Dealer says all comes with resetting computer for 50 gal tank. So no oil monitor, Diesel Exhaust Fluid monitor, or can't use Selecty Shift for hauling trailer. Sounds like a programming problem that Ford is aware of, but no solution! Any comments would be appreciated as this is a new vehicle (6 months of trying to resolve).

is this the standard dash, or the lcd productivity screen? Based on other feedback on this site, I dont think the productivity screen should lose functionality.

On EDIT: I see you mention message center, so I'm presuming thats the productivity screen.

To get the gear indicator to show up again simply press the + button on the gear shifter.

As to the other menu options not being available, my guess is you need to press the left arrow on the directional pad (located on the left side of the steering wheel) 2 or 3 times to get out of any sub-menus you are currently in. Then see if all the main menus are available and now you can see the DEF and OLM reading.

Yea, I know how that works. The problem is when those actions are taken, there is no display for these items. Dealer says it comes with the larger than OEM fuel tank install and I have to live with it after the computer re-flash

I'd go to another dealer...to see if you get the same answer. I bet you don't.

I'm sure you did...go to another dealer. There are a lot of guys that put titan's in their trucks and haven't had issues getting the dealer to reprograms the MTE. The instructions are for reprogramming are:

1) Ensure IDS is at least version 72.xx - current version is 72.04 (in May 2011)
2) Click on the toolbox icon at top left of main screen
3) Select 'Module Programming' - click checkmark icon
4) Select 'Programmable Parameters'
5) Select 'Fuel" - click checkmark icon
6) Select 'Front Fuel Tank - (IC) = xx' on bottom of parameter list
7) Select 50 (or whatever size you need) on right side of screen and click checkmark icon. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions.

Dealer full of it - for sure

Your dealer is definitely full of it. My dealer said, "Can't reset the fuel tank size, not possible." I said, "Gee, let's plug the computer in and see." He says, "Well I'll be dammed". Reset to new Titan tank size with no negative effects on any other functionality. Geez, with as many people replacing the horrible small fuel tanks with aftermarket you figure the dealers/service would be more aware...

Good luck! If you are in Illinois I can refer you to the dealer who reset mine successfully.

In Phoenix, but sounds promising. I can't believe that Ford CSC would blow me off though. I couldn't believe that Ford would allow that situation to go on over several years! And to the tank size: I also mentioned to the Ford rep, telcon, that the 26 gal tank on a crew cab diesel was ludicrous. However, my 2005 only came with 28 which I switched out also. Thx

The 158" and 172" CC comes with a 37.5 gallon tank... guess that's the price you pay for a short bed...

Yes, and if you have the long bed you go to a 65 gallon Titan!

I'm sure the small tank was a production part they reused because they needed room for a def tank and didn't want to redesign one...

And then there's the extra weight of the fuel that would limit the payload with a 10k gvw rating...

but Titan's glad they did it that way
