LOL at the chevy with 10 cab lights. A bit of overkill !

Bucks77, now that you mention it, the evenly spaced lights don't look bad at all.

I liked seeing the big trucks (like those in Ice Road Truckers) coming at me at night time, so I 'stole' their pattern when I fitted mine.

Brian, my middle 3 lights are set in line, but in front of the outer 2, in order to follow the curve, but ranger429's lined up look neat.

I think the prospective fitter should set them on the cab in as many ways as need be until he likes the look of them, then mark and fit. (Limited to less than 10 though. LOL)

These are the only 2 pages from the parts catalog i saw with roof marker lights. Looks like they came factory spaced even and three in the middle, depending on the application.

Those are very useful diagrams.

Maybe the Chevy diagrams show 10 lights !?

He's a big rig wannabe. It is very popular with the big trucks to add more cab lights.

Mine are on per OE specs. I got my mounting specs from another guy who already had factory lights.

Here they are on my '78.

To me they don't look right on shortbeds or Bronco's. I prefer them to be on 4x4's too, but idk that's my preference. I guess I'm just weird like that. lol

I put the cab lights on mine and I love them. I placed them evenly across the roof, and have them all follow the windshield roof line. this looks best to me, and I love the big rig look. Here is a few shots of mine from different angles to give you an idea of this style.

call me a redneck, but i think a truck looks unfinished without them. i also like the taller ones with CHROME, not just the short all orange ones.
mine are spaced 1 3 1 and follow the line of the roof front.

(sorry, rebuilding my computer, so pics are in my album)

Well, I think the old school original way is the 1 3 1 design with the three center cab lights and the outside marker lights. I placed mine evenly across the roof following the front countour of the roof line which I like. I also used the cab lights used up until eary '77, then in 1977 the changed from the tear drop to the flat top tear drop shape. I followed my dad's style which my truck is modeled, or fashioned after. Cab lights are like bacon, its just good!

Did somebody say bacon?! My '76 cab already had the holes so all I did was head down to the local ranch supply and pic up some lights. I like the look so much I''m going to take some measurements and add them to my replacement '79 cab.

My Cab lights

I got my bacon... I mean my el cheapo cab lights from EL M See. I have not installed them yet because of the endless rain and cold weather we've had aroud here. I'm not really impressed with the quality - they are the ones with the amber lense and gray plastic base. I would have like the chrome base but I thought those stuck up a bit higher and I see them more on older models. I'll probably do the 1-3-1 pattern and I'll put in lighted toggle switch on my dash. The wiring harness that comes in the kit is well... a joke but I knew that already. I plan to run my own wires, solder the connections, heat shrink, POR-15 under the roof, insulate, replace the headliner and install the Chrome headliner trim I scored off ebay...

Here are some close ups for those interested...

The bottom side has a small groove for what I assume to be the ground wire. I will not ground to the screw but rather run another wire for that purpose and only drill a small hole large enough for the wires, add a grommet and fill with some silicone. When the bulb needs to be serviced I will need to unscrew light from cab. The screws that came with the kit are cheap too and I will replace with some 316SS.

The foam gasket is well, cheap too. I would have preferred something that would be more rubber like and that the housing lip would sit down on (rather than tucked in underneath) but, I'll just run with this for now.

Oh did I mention they didn't cost too much?
