i backed out of the driveway to go hunting the other day, and when i put it in drive it would not go. i put it back in reverse and it died. it will not move in forward and dies everytime i put it in reverse. it has an e40d transmission in it. 4x4. any ideas? still has plenty of fluid and no leaks.

Does it drive forward if you hit the cancel O/D button on the end of the shifter?

Possibly Torque Converter Clutch stuck in engaged position for whatever reason. If so, engine should be killed in any gear selected, but possible in drive transmission has something slipping enough internally to allow engine to not die. Does the tachometer drop when you put it in Drive? If no, and the transmission worked properly before the trouble started, the T.C.C. is likely not the cause. impish
