190k mile sparkplug
#31
I found some info on another website the other day about the Pro Guard stuff, and per Chevron it apparently contains half as much Techron as the pure Techron concentrate, and Chevron gas has only 1/10 the amount as the pure Techron will when put into a tank at the level recommended. The pure Techron is to be used no more than once every 3k miles, the Pro Guard is safe for use every 1k miles, and the gas you can use all the time.

Outstanding info YoGeorge! Pretty much as I assumed but we all know what happens when we assume too much too often!
Seems the best way would be using the already-added fuels as often as possible. Since that's not always available the concentrate or Pro-Gard would be adequate at the suggested intervals.
Thanks!

OMG, where's the little bowing smiley, as I am in the presence of the all knowing and powerful OZ, aren't you special.
As I said, you never drove mine, it had some things done that seemed to work quite well with it, the package had larger brakes, bolt pattern, sway bars, power windows, and door locks. WTF do I know!
I never owned a V-6 full size car, wouldn't know anything about them, the only V-6 I ever drove was in an S-10.

Maybe grow a slightly thicker skin towards those not rife with the exact same info you possess?
Yes there are mounds of what turn out to be misinformation about any one subject, that's in abundant evidence everyone we look on the internet. Its great you're sharing your GM info (I'm also a fan of the brand) but it doesn't need to be bashed about simply because one or two slightly disagree or have other experiences they share.
So what was the original topic here anyway? Oh yeah---- Ford spark plugs!

Got news for you bigger brakes are part of the 9C1 SEO (thats Special Equipment Options which I'm sure you had no clue). Are you serious??? REALLY???? Sway bars, power windows and door locks?!?!?!?!?!?!? WOW WEEE YOU DID have the super special police car. Man I'm sorry I ever doubted you. <BTW that was sarcasm to the extreme> You can not believe how hard I'm laughing at you right now, The best you have, the one thing you feel will illustrate your case the best, is to bring up your car had power windows and locks?????? Your a hoot kid, do you even drive yet? You perfected illustrated perfectly just "WTF" you DONT know.
Yes there are many other items with the SEO package, silicone hoses, extra fuse blocks, reinforced roofs (for roof lights), spot lights, reinforced floors under drivers seat, extra wires to the front and rear bumper areas, roof, dash, heavy duty vinyl or cloth seats, anti-stab plates.
Compared to what you know about 9C1s, yes, I AM the all knowing Oz, compared to what I know there are guys here... Chevrolet Impala SS Forum : Chevy Impala SS Forums ... that can make me look like a kindergartner. Thats the biggest b-body forum/data base out there.
Tell ya what, rather then the same sophmoric drivel, "you don't know MY car, you don't know MY car.." do some research yourself, learn facts. Hey, you never know, maybe you can find something real to prove me wrong.
I suppose you have no answer to my hypothetical question? "You don't know my car." Thats not an answer, no facts, no support.

And Techron....while I was at Costco yesterday, I checked the Pro Guard price and it was $17.99 for 6 bottles. There is not as much concentrated Techron in the Pro Guard stuff, but there is some, and at $3 for a bottle, it works for me.

Not sure if you can read it (I can't on my lap top but can on my phone) the Pro-guard is $7.99 for a 20oz.
Thanks for the info on the techron concentration in Pro-guard, I was thinking of getting those next time figuring it was just Chevron repackaged.

What ever dude, I'm guessing it wasn't stock, the guy who drove it at the department like to modify crap, it was the detectives car, so it wasn't part of the shift rotation. Yet it's all hearsay to you as I don't have it any longer and you can't look it over to give it your OK! So enough, I don't need your acceptance!

[QUOTE=EwagonJeff;12774601]I'm not the one that got my panties in a bunch when some one presented FACTS illustrating missinformation/urban legands were wrong. Like I said, you (collective singular) want to search out bigfoot and UFOs, no skin off my teeth.[quote]
Well actually your own panties seem to be quite in a bunch otherwise you'd not post so much Chevrolet info on a Ford Van forum. To wit: \/ \/ \/
Every forum has to have at least one trolling member who'll make a mountain from a mole hill and bash anyone who dares disagree with them, over reacting with a flood of info just to prove themselves right. What began as a spark plug thread has now become a fist fight about something completely unrelated. Sad thing is this entire thread is in danger of being closed or deleted because we won't drop a non-issue argument.
Relax, let it go, don't take it so personally and let's find something else to bicker about; how about immigration reform instead!?!?!?

So rather then present any FACTS supporting your claims, you throw out barbs, rather then open your mind and learning you kick and scream.

Again, unless the mechanical parts of the engine was modified, bigger cam, heads, intake exhaust, your just not going to see more then 10-15 hp from any sort of computer mods. It's mechanically NOT possible to squeeze anymore (then a few) hp from it. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, police, civvy, doesn't matter. Simple fact, should be, one would think, should be clear to any one with even just the slightest knowledge of automobiles....should be.

The AutoZones in my area (far northern Illinoiz) have the 12oz/12gallon bottles for $7.99, the 20oz/20 gallon are $12.99.
Not sure if you can read it (I can't on my lap top but can on my phone) the Pro-guard is $7.99 for a 20oz.
Thanks for the info on the techron concentration in Pro-guard, I was thinking of getting those next time figuring it was just Chevron repackaged.

Here is the link I found. Techron is Poly Ether Amine, so if you have any of this in your medicine cabinet, you can just use that Note also that there are different Pro Guard products and the one we want is the "fuel injector cleaner"
Chevron Techron, Pro-Gard, and Gas concentrations - Nissan Forums: Nissan Forum
I don't remember if it was in this link or another, but the Chevron folks said that if you use their gas, you don't need the additive as your engine will have a steady diet of Techron anyway. I assume that other top tier level gasoline will have similar or equivalent cleaning abilities.
Take care,
George

Does the Techron really do as they boast, the ethanol really wrecks havoc on your fuel system, I'm wondering what's the best plan of attack, my carburated van hates the stuff, I've run seafoam and chemtool many times in the past, I believe the best is the stuff the dealer runs into the fuel rail from a compressed can.
I'm at the point, the tank on one needs dropped to clean it out because of the mess, I don't want to be repeating the process with my daily driver, it has 146,000 miles on it.

In the old days of buying carbureted vehicles that were used and gunked up, I swear that Gumout would help a lot of them and clear out some pretty bad hairballs. If the Gumout didn't do it, I would take apart the carbs and basically rebuild them. That was a long time ago when I used to flip cars for a few bucks and have some fun driving experiences.
I make no promises on the Pro Guard or Techron; our cars run pretty well but running a bottle thru during a long trip seems to help smooth them out a bit. Seafoam is naphtha (lighter fluid), oil, and alcohol...hardly high tech and I don't think I like the idea of running oil thru my catalytic converters. I've not used Chemtool but just looked it up and it's acetone and other solvents including alcohols--prolly not unlike Gumout.
I believe that Techron is more akin to the detergent formulas that are inherently used in gasoline as opposed to magic formulas involving lighter fluid and oil (yuk).
Good luck,
George
