Was spare tire carrier an option in 66?
Happy January to all,
We just purchased a second 66 F-100 today. It is a styleside long bed (AKA Sally) and has a spare tire carrier with a spare mounted between the frames behind rear axle. Our other 66 shortbed styleside (AKA Becky) does not have the carrier and I can see no sign of one ever being present. Does anyone know whether this was an option in 66, standard in 66, or a clever add-on to Sally by a PO?
Thanks,
Gavin

You could order just the spare wheel only.
1964/72 F100/250 Stylesides: There was an optional spare tire carrier that fit in the bed, butted up to the bedside.
Look at the R or L sides of the bed in front of the wheelhouse for holes in the floor (4) and upper side (3).

Thanks for the info NumberDummy, I guess that means the under bed mounting behind the rear axle located between the frame rails was a modification by a previous owner. We have the 64-72 PDF parts book, but I can find nothing about a spare tire carrier except for footnotes that say 'used with spare tire carrier' associated with stepside fender parts and larger series truck rear lamp brackets. Is there a separate publication for such options?

For many years, the spare wheel was an option and so was the tire!

Would that be the same situation for the unibodys too? My '63 has what appears to be a factory tire carrier too.

I learn something every day. I have 2 65's and 1 66. All are stylesides and they all have factory spare tires under them. Infact, I have never seen a 65'/66' without one under the bed. I had no idea the 'underbed' spare tire was an option.
Or is it just the spare that goes IN the bed that is the option? I think maybe I've seen one of those at some time - can't remember. JMO, but why would someone have a spare IN the bed. I guess maybe if it were a military issue truck assigned to the middle of the desert... Than again, most military issued I've seen were flaresides.
Bill, did they ever make a flareside with the indentation on 'both' fenders to mount spare tires...? OR as you have mentioned,,, maybe my brain is on the Fritzzzzz.

The bottle jack is the same: 1948/52 F1/F2, 1953/84 F100/250.
Beginning in 1967, the jack is located under the hood on the left fender inner apron, secured with a clamp.

If anyone is interested, the folding jack crank handle is available from Ford.
82Y-17081-B .. Folding Jack Crank Handle ~ MSRP: $30.52 // FTE sponsor tousleyfordparts.com price: $20.14.

Are you talking about an in bed spare tire mount. If so look at the wheel tub cover on the drivers side. It should have an indent for the spare tire to fit into the holder and it was usually mounted on the drivers side. I have seen these on the unibodys and 57-66 older styleside beds. I have one of the inbed spare tire mounts but I am still looking for another. They are getting hard to find.
