Lt 295/60-20 Terra Grapplers????

Background: My tires are about shot so I am starting my search to see what I want to replace them with. The truck is a daily driver so most (90%) of the time it is on the pavement. The other 10% is off-road for hunting, and doing things around my grandfather’s farm. I almost got hung up last year in a pasture (clay soil). I live on the PA/MD line, so we don’t see a whole lot of snow most years.

I am currently running the Goodyear Wrangler AT/s Lt 275/65-20 on the factory 8 spoke rims (2008-2010). I was thinking about getting a set of Nitto Terra Grappler Lt 295/60-20. I want to get something that is pretty good on the road (noise, balance, wet traction) since that is most of the use. But, I really hate tires that anytime you get on wet grass, or worse you are stuck.

I don’t want to get a tire that is any smaller (34 inches high and 11 inches wide) then the current set. Overall maybe something slightly more aggressive then the Wrangler AT/s tread patern.

Questions:
Will the 295/60-20s fit on my 2006 S-cap 4wd (no lift or leveling kit). Anyone currently running that size?
Does the Terra Grappler sound like a good choice for my use.
Anyone know a better choice?

Thanks

According to Nitto's specs, those tires are 34.45 inches tall and 12.36 inches wide. I think those would fit nicely. Terras are very soft and can be squishy when carrying heavy loads, just so you know. Nitto does suggest a 8.5 wheel but I think you'll be fine.

They look like the Trail Grapplers on that truck. I think the newer trucks (2008+) can fit larger tires on them without a problem (My truck is a 2006). I was looking it over last night and even with the wheels turned I think there is enough room to clear another .35 inches higher and 1.36 inches wider. You also need to remember to half that number as far as what is added on each side. On my truck the first place that will rub is on the factory mudflaps. At least they look factory, I am the 2nd owner.

I didn’t know about the terra grappler being soft. Soft is usually good for wet traction. I don’t tow really heavy, 4-6k every once and a while. From what I saw a lot of people liked them.

I had terra grapplers - decent tire - however I only got 32k with rotating every 7k. Never got stuck - even plowing - never drove in clay though. They are quiet, good on hiway and like i said a decent all around tire. I had 285/70 17. You may need a more agressive tire.
I decided to go with cooper this time.

I thought I saw that the Terra Grapplers come with a 40,000 mile warranty? I figured they would be good for 50,000. I will have to check that again.

I looked at the Cooper ST Maxx. But it doesn't even look like they make that in a 20. And the more aggressive one only come in 35 12.5 20, which I don't think is going to fit without rubbing or a lift/ leveling.

My brother used to have a '06 F350 regular cab, he had General Grabbers 35/12.5/20's on his truck with no issues with rubbing. He used the factory 20"x8" wheels and had wandering issues because the wheels were too narrow for the tires. 9" wheels were recommended.

I really like my Terra Grapplers. They are 295/75/18's which are 34.5 inches tall. I offroad in mud and sand some getting my kayak around and they're pretty good. I think 40k may be about right. Pulling the camper and my daily driving brisk accelerations they wear faster than my BFG's did. Very quiet and road worthy. Hope this helps for the tread pattern anyway.

Come to think of it 40k does sound like a good number.
it was November and
i wanted some meat on my tires for winter. Had it been
july
i could have gotten another 8 -10k out of them easy.

Well, not compared to my experience with a BFG KO. I've had numberous sets on lots of things and they dry rot before I wear them out. Real good tires. They just didn't have the goofy size I wanted to keep my factory wheels so I went with the Nitto's. I like them pretty good. I've had General Grabbers too and never had issues with them. Only drove them about 20k miles before I sold truck though.
