Should I expect to add oil to a new 6.7 Diesel
Wondering what 2012 / 2013 owners are experiecing in regards to the need to add oil to the 6.7 diesel between oil changes. I actually haven't needed to add oil to any of my vehicles since the 1980's between oil changes. But then again I've never had a diesel. Just wondering if I should go out and buy a few quarts (or more?) of 15-40 to have on-hand. Could any of you share your experiences? Thanks in advance.

One other thing is that these newer emision diesels can actually "make oil". The extra fuel injected to burn out the soot in the diesel particulate can pass the rings in enough quantity to increase the oil level. But the 6.7s have not been experiancing this to date. It was more an issue with the 6.4s.

Of all the "Consumables" used by your truck... "Oil" is one of the cheapest. Compare it to tires, a tank full of diesel, insurance, License & Registration, etc... Then when your truck get's near the 200K mileage the questions show up here about "How much more can I run it before it needs an engine ?".... The guy's getting 300k miles out of a Powerstroke are not running the cheapest oil and fuel they can get their hands on. Just something to think about...
