Question about the topside fuel filter.

Silly question but… I was installing my blue spring today and when I removed the fuel filter I found a brown crowned ring and black O-ring under it sitting on the bottom of the filter housing. I looked in the filter and it has the crown and O-ring built into it could this be from the previous filter and somehow I just didn’t see it before installing the new one???

I have seen this a few times before. Useually with an aftermarket filter use only Motorcraft filters and cap.

As dannyboy said, probably am filter and/or cap. Make sure you also have the factory cap installed.

I'm sorry ut1rusty, Danny boy would be correct on the non OEM filter this is what happens those filters fall apart , I read it and thought you were asking about o-ring parts for the blue spring install . make sure the cap is OEM also,

Also be sure to attach the filter to the cap before you install and push straight down as you turn the cap. The filter housing center post is also a fuel shutoff valve and when you install the filter, it opens the valve. A crushed or twisted filter will not open the valve and the truck will not start.

Checked the cover it is factory from what I can tell. I was thinking the same thing just part of the non OEM filter that came in it when I got it. Same for the oil filter had to go out and buy a new lid for that. But it has all factory filters in it now. I am still kicking myself in the butt for not seeing that in it when I put the new filter in. Thanks for the replies.
