What does the 7.3 need to run?

Aside from fuel, air and combustion that is. Just a short rehash. We are working on a 2002 E350 van chassis. We are grafting a 1953 IH cab onto the frame. We have all of the wiring harness from the van. It's a large harness so we would like to par it down to the necessities to make the engine run without the computer freaking out. Obviously, we won't have airbag sensors and such on the 53 so we would expect that to code out on the computer. But what sensors need to be hooked up? Does anyone have access to a good wiring schematic showing the color of wire and location of sensor?

You will need to have all of the main sensors hooked up. PCM, IPR, ICP, EBP, etc. I will see if I can find some links for you.

Here's a good list of engine sensors:

Here's a great wiring diagram that Ken (woodnthings) posted a while back:

I wouldnt try to eliminate as much as possible, rather as little as possible. There are things you can do without, but that doesnt mean it's good. You COULD ditch the intercooler, but I wouldnt.. You COULD ditch the ICP sensor, but its not really taking up much space..

Just keep as much as you can, I say.

Wow, guys absolutely awesome info! I'm going to be working on this info for some time.
We put the heads back on the motor last night. Next is paint and installing the motor back into the frame. We are kicking around the idea of firing up the motor before putting the cab on just to check things over. Once the cab is on, working on the motor becomes problematic.

You can get rid of the ICP sensor? What does it do then? I thought it gave feedback and the HPOP could adjust its pressure? If its strictly a monitor not really used for feedback and the HPOP does whatever its going to do, why can it affect how the truck runs? By the way I'm trying to learn about these engines, so NO ONE take my questions as fact!

My opinion, I don't think you can delete the ICP without affecting performance and efficiency of the engine. Again, this is only my opinion.

That's why I said you CAN delete it. But it's not taking up any room just an example. If you remove it the PCM defaults to 724psi

what is normal HPOP pressure? I just disconnected mine while running and the RPMS jumped a little for a second and came back to normal idle. Plugged back in and no change in engine speed.

400-3000 psi. Unplugging it will cause it to default to 724 and it won't revert back with it plugged in unless you restart.

Oh man.... My first thought even though I'm going to take a lot of crap for is to ditch the 7.3... I said it ditch it... Sell it buy a 12 valve cummins it only takes one wire to get it running.
I had a plan of buying a 53 f100 and shoving my 7.3 out of my truck into it... I had a whole plan thought out in my head on how to make it work. Then I realized how much easier it would be to just drop a 12valve in it.
I understand you have the whole chassis and its a little different point of view but hey why not throw it out there. Good luck
