BEST OIL FOR A 6.0
#5
STOCK06, maybe look at the posters signature, i'd say his opinion is a good one. 10w30, 15w40, 5w40 are all good choices. CJ-4 is the rating needed to be safe for our trucks. So take everyones opinion and make a decidion to suit you.
I run Shell Rotell T-6 5W40. Another good choice is Mobil1 also. This is kinda like a ford, chevy debate to some though.

Mobil 1 Delvac is the brand of synthetic oil used at all Ford dealers. And yes, whatever engine oil you choose to run MUST bear the CJ-4 API rating. When I posted 10W30, I wasn't referring to 10W30 for gasoline engines. It used to be that 10W30 was the grade used during colder ambient temperatures, but since discovering that overall engine performance and efficiency improved with using 10W30, I and most Ford dealer techs have been happy to use it all year round for 6.0L, 6.4L and now 6.7L engines.

For those who any any concerns about 10/30- in a diesel-put you mind to rest. We have the best diesel engine of its class ever made-in the worst rv ever foisted onto two working people in the history of rv'ing-the rotten Phoenix Cruiser; the chasis is a late '07 E450 which has just reached 85k trouble free, (alternator the sole issue) miles.
The performance of the engine is flawless, from the steepest mountain roads (Skyline Drive, Blueridge Pky, Cherahala Skyway) in triple or near triple digit ambient temps the temp gauge does not move from normal even while towing our enclosed trailer with bike inside. Yes that nuclear powered fan stays on a bit at full tilt but the temp never budges from 'normal'-mileage under these brutal conditions a solid 12-13 mpg.
On good roads, combo highway, city, hills etc-a solid 14+ and on very good roads, ie: 95 S of DC, high 16's not a problem but speeds are closer to 50mph than the posted limit.
Oil consumption has NEVER been an issue-don't add between changes in fact the level always remains where I fill it to during the change.
As to viscosity: our 6.0 is not particularly fond of 5-40 but is very happy with one particular brand of 15-40 and a special 30 10/30 weight from this same Company-after about 20k miles using the 30 weight I have pretty much decided to use this exclusively.
The brand-Amsoil.
I don't sell the stuff, I don't care if you buy it or not-but the heavy duty diesel and marine 15-40 AND especially their 30 10/30 BOTH 12 tbn, are from our experience the best diesel oils made and yes Amsoil MAKES the oils they sell.
And boys; if you claim the 6.0 is a shear monster you ain't using the right juice or you're leaving it in too long (probably the former) 'cuz I got 15 or so uoa's that say shearing isn't an issue.

It's not only our dealership. Mobil 1 IS the supplier of OEM synthetic oil for all the grades of oil to ALL Ford dealerships. As a matter fact, Esso Imperial Oils is the OEM supplier of all our lubricants, of which Mobil is a subsidiary.

No you're wrong. I work at a dealership as well and you will not find Mobil 1 on our shelves only Motorcraft. I don't know about the diesel oil but the motorcraft for gas engines is made by Conoco Phillips. ALL is a mighty strong word my friend. Just seen your signature that you're in Canada. Very possible Mobil has the contract with Ford in Canada but in the states it's either mostly or entirely Conoco. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if it was BP that has the contract in Europe.
