Getting minor scratches out of paint

What is the best way to get minor scratches out of paint?

I have a '03 Ranger, w/ no clear coat.

Getting minor scratches out of paint

First, ALL 2003 Rangers have clearcoat paint- no exceptions. For removing the scratches, try a product called Scratch Out or Scratch Off (I can never remember the actual name). You can buy it at any auto supply store, and it comes in a BRIGHT yellow bottle. Works on any finish, does a great job of removing scratches like those caused by fingernails around door handles.

Getting minor scratches out of paint

Another thing you might want to try is some rubbing compound. I used it on my truck after a lady sideswiped me and the scratches pretty much dissapeared.

Getting minor scratches out of paint

cow_boy104:

I have to agree with 1956MarkII on the Scratch Out product made by KIT. When used with an orbital buffer it performs miracles on your paint. In fact it now comes as a paste...

But another trick to a glass-like finish is to use clay on your paint first. Clay will remove all the garbage that has bonded onto your paint surface. "Mothers" makes the best clay i have tried. I did not like Meguiar's clay at all. Anyway, you will not believe how nice your paint will feel after you clay it. Next finish the job with some nice wax. The wax will come off much easier once your paint is cleaned by the clay.

1. Clay your paint
2. Use Scratch-Out or similar clearcoat cleaner to remove fog/scratches/stains
3. Wax that badboy down and put on your shades

And yes, you DO have clearcoat unless you don't have a factory paint job.
