I've got a 29 Special Coupe but don't currently own a Model A truck or AA. Someday I hope to have one and I keep an eye out in case I run across something to good to pass up. I don't know anything special for you to watch out for other than the normal culprits..rust, etc. Repop parts are plentiful in the aftermarket and just about anything can be rebuilt but with a little effort you can find a complete truck for a lot less than you can restore one from the ground up.

Hi. I'm not as much into A's as later V-8s but maybe I can help you out. The AA designation was originally based on the T. They used TT for Model T-Truck. They just kept up the designation into the AA and later, BB. The AA has a longer wheelbase than the light duty A and the rear axle hsg is a 2-piece like heavier trucks through the 30s and into the 40s, or they could even have a 2-speed rear axle. AA could have solid stamped steel single wheels, budd-type wheels either single or dual, or I've seen some with heavy duty spoke wheels (but the latter are usually '28/'29 models). I understand the engines to be the same regardless whether they were installed into a car or a AA although the truck could have a larger clutch. I also understand that the later AAs had larger radiators. Hope that helps you out.

geo is right on.... I have had 2 AAs. One when I was 19 and the latest when I was 50. I followed them closely in between the years. The first was a '28 and it had stamped steel singles and a worm gear rear end. It was the common low geared version with a top speed of 26 mph. Years later I got another ( a 29)and it had the rare high speed worm gear and I got it going 45 mph down hill once. The 30s and 31s were mostly duallys. They are more usable today. Having sold the 28 back in 1974 when I got married I had recurring dreams that it was still in my folks barn and I would wake up and realize it wasn't so. The second time around it wasn't as fun so I got a '59 f350 and stuck a cummins in it and I haven't looked back. It still looks like a POS and surface rust and faded paint, but we took a 280 mile trip in it last weekend and I'm syill smilin' from it....... yes, model AA flatbeds rock, but don't expect much from them.....

Did you end up with the Model A flatbed? I just sold our '30 closed-cab pickup a few months back. It was hard to sell as it had been in the family for nearly 40 years, but it went to a good home. Anyway, the differences between A and AA were discussed above, but they both are great if you have the room.
