mirror help

i picked up a set of stock mirrors for my 51 at pf. how do i get the hinge pin out on a painted truck.

It always seems everyone want to put the mirrors on after the paint job. Anyway, you have to grind the head off the pin, especially if it's been in there a long time. THen drive it down thru with a punch or drift pin. They are a SOB to get out at times. Cover up the side of the door and pillar to prevent damage. Soak it with a good penatrating oil for a while first. You can also drill it out with a slightly undersized drill bit, then push out what's left. The name of the game here is patience!! Don't be in a hurry on it or you'll be sorry.
